How do I remove gold paint from glass?
It's either gold paint or gilt, not sure of the difference really. I won a cool lamp on ebay, it's from the 1950s or 1960s, swag style on a chain. The lamp is made from a heavy clear glass, and there are cirles with swirls all over it. (think of quarter size spots). All of the circles are painted gold, but some are really worn, or totally missing the paint from wear. I want to redo the paint, but I need to take the old stuff off first, but do not want to damage the glass.
There's no way I can get in the grooves of the swirls with a razor, but don't want to mar the glass either....
Any suggestions?
try using a strong solvent like acetone, wont hurt the glass but will dissolve the paint. depending on the type of paint you may need to try different solvents.
